A rusty color indicates that the rust inhibitor in the coolant has broken down and it can no longer control rust and scale buildup. The color of healthy engine coolant is green (for ethylene glycol) or orange (for Dexcool). These actions will avert the problems associated with Dexcool or any other coolant product. In addition, completely flush and refill the system every two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. Whether you are running Dexcool (the orange stuff) or ethylene glycol (the green stuff), inspect the coolant level and the condition/protection of the coolant at every oil change. Here's the bottom line when it comes to cooling system maintenance. So what are the guidelines on maintaining engine coolant? There were class action suits against GM on this issue, and GM reached settlement agreements with some owners beginning in 2008. Overall, numerous cooling system problems have been attributed to the use of this controversial product, although GM firmly stands behind it. Rust builds up in the system, inhibiting coolant flow, which causes overheating. The acid eats away at head gaskets and intake gaskets. Cooling systems that use Dexcool exhibit more acid buildup and rust in the system when the coolant level gets low and oxygen is allowed to enter the system. It's supposed to last 5 years or 150,000 miles, but there have been problems with this coolant. In the 1990s, GM introduced an engine coolant called Dexcool. GM suggests flushing Dexcool for the first time at 150,000 miles. If I have Dexcool in my car, can I leave it in for the life of the car? Head gaskets blow, heads warp, and the engine suffers major damage. The water pump overheats and fails due to a lack of lubricant in the coolant. The coolant stops flowing through the system, clogs up coolant passageways and water jackets, radiators, and heater cores. The coolants chemically react and form a gel rather than a liquid. What exactly happens when these coolants are mixed? To guard against major engine failure, read on. There are some coolants that claim compatibility with Dexcool, but I would rather err conservatively and add what the system is supposed to take rather than gamble. When mixed together they form a gel-like substance that stops coolant flow, and consequently, the engine overheats. The green and orange coolants do not mix. This is one of those questions usually asked after the fact, and usually engine damage has already occurred. Can I mix green coolant with orange coolant? What is coolant?Ĭoolant (sometimes referred to as antifreeze or radiator fluid) is used to regulate your engine temperature and prevent it from overheating. And in mixing any antifreeze with water for a 50/50 mix, the use of distilled water is highly recommended. On GM's own consumer site, the debate regarding its Dexcool antifreeze continues. In this step-by-step walkthrough, we’ll show you how easy it is to get Windows 11 running on your Mac and also discuss some of the potential caveats and configuration notes. Parallels Desktop for Mac - optimized for Apple Silicon - emulates PC hardware, allowing users to deploy a Windows 11 virtual machine in just a few clicks. If anything changes I would appreciate you dropping a line or 2, thank you.Are there Windows-exclusive apps that you need to run but don’t have access to a dedicated Windows machine? If you’re still using an Intel-based Mac, Boot Camp remains a popular option, but if you’ve transitioned to Apple Silicon Macs, Boot Camp, a native method for running Windows on a Mac, is no longer an option.įortunately, Microsoft has put considerable effort into developing Windows 11 for ARM architecture, which Apple uses for its M-series chips in today’s Macs. It’s not a huge deal and if Ansys does not see the potential I’m sure the business case is poor, this means tough break for me and wait it out and postpone my transition. I tried both Win 11 Home and Pro on parallels for the Ansys install and the steps provided Leo Carrilho where they got one machine working (same installs where Abaqus and Hyperworks work). It runs smooth and quite decent speeds, from my experience with automotive problems a very good capable laptop could tackle most of my problems before needing to go to bigger machines, I like mobility and flexibility, this allows me to be able to work directly on my laptop from anywhere. Abaqus runs straight out of the box on the same windows 11 install where I tried to install Ansys to no avail. I’m a long Abaqus user and I wanted to learn and switch as much as possible to Ansys, but the fact I cannot run mechanical really puts a spoke on my wheel. For many reasons I have had macs as my personal computers for a long time, it was just recently with the advent of apple silicon that I saw the opportunity not carry around 2 laptops, it might still be a niche for sure, but it does offer some very attractive advantages for me. In my experience, a good laptop can still solve fairly complex problems without the need of a cluster. Thank you very much for the follow up, and yes, you’re correct most of the simulation tools for solid mechanics of fluid dynamics works on Windows or Linux and given the somewhat steep price tag of a mac a laptop, some win laptop can offer more than enough power for a fairer price. it is not possible to install Windows10 on a Mac with an M1 chip, Microsoft were developing Windows 10 for the Mac M1chip, but stopped development when they introduced Windows 11 and development is ongoing currently. When I bought my first PC Mac OS didn't have a Fortran compiler available, and at nearly twice the price for the hardware it meant engineering students went towards desktop PC.Īs a question, how many CAD packages work well on Mac, and how many of the latest PC games run well on first release? It's for Windows 11, but if you absolutely have to run Windows 10, it's basically the same. Use this guide to create an installation file that works. Only Insider Preview builds from the Dev Channel were working and those are no longer officially available from Microsoft either. If any of this changes then Ansys will review the supported platforms. Yes, none of the officially released Windows 10 isos work on M1. What you may find is the Linux builds can run on Mac, but I've never known anyone try it, and Student isn't built for Linux. I also teach at a University for a session most years, out of 50-100 students I rarely see more than 1-2 with Macs: that may be a UK bias but I suspect not. The bulk of Ansys compute is done on clusters, historically on UNIX/Linux and, more recently, Windows. We do monitor what's used in the world, but other than some laptops I don't see Mac OS anywhere. So it's not all that surprising that the emulators hold all the graphics stuff but not enough of the other libraries. GUI side is fairly easy, it's when you solve that all of the maths, numerical methods etc kick in. On early audio CD players that were released prior to the advent of the CD-ROM, the raw binary data of CD-ROM was played back as noise. Some computers that were marketed in the 1990s were called " multimedia" computers because they incorporated a CD-ROM drive, which allowed for the delivery of several hundred megabytes of video, picture, and audio data. By early 1990, about 300,000 CD-ROM drives were sold in Japan, while 125,000 CD-ROM discs were being produced monthly in the United States. In 1990, Data East demonstrated an arcade system board that supported CD-ROMs, similar to 1980s laserdisc video games but with digital data, allowing more flexibility than older laserdisc games. ĬD-ROMs began being used in home video game consoles starting with the PC Engine CD-ROM² (TurboGrafx-CD) in 1988, while CD-ROM drives had also become available for home computers by the end of the 1980s. One of the first products to be made available to the public on CD-ROM was the Grolier Academic Encyclopedia, presented at the Microsoft CD-ROM Conference in March 1986. It was eventually standardized, with a few changes, as the ISO 9660 standard in 1988. The resulting specification, called the High Sierra format, was published in May 1986. In November, 1985, several computer industry participants including Microsoft, Philips, Sony, Apple and Digital Equipment Corporation met to create a specification to define a file system format for CD-ROMs. The CD-ROM was announced in 1984 and introduced by Denon and Sony at the first Japanese COMDEX computer show in 1985. Sony and Philips created the technical standard that defines the format of a CD-ROM in 1983, in what came to be called the Yellow Book. The CD-ROM was later designed as an extension of the CD-DA, and adapted this format to hold any form of digital data, with an initial storage capacity of 553 MB. The result was the Compact Disc Digital Audio (CD-DA), defined on 1980. Key work to digitize the optical disc was performed by Toshi Doi and Kees Schouhamer Immink during 1979–1980, who worked on a taskforce for Sony and Philips. The LaserDisc was the immediate precursor to the CD, with the primary difference being that the LaserDisc encoded information through an analog process whereas the CD used digital encoding. In particular, Gregg's patents were used as the basis of the LaserDisc specification that was co-developed between MCA and Philips after MCA purchased Gregg's patents, as well as the company he founded, Gauss Electrophysics. The earliest theoretical work on optical disc storage was done by independent researchers in the United States including David Paul Gregg (1958) and James Russel (1965–1975). DVD started to replace it in these roles starting in the early 2000s. Some CDs, called enhanced CDs, hold both computer data and audio with the latter capable of being played on a CD player, while data (such as software or digital video) is only usable on a computer (such as ISO 9660 format PC CD-ROMs).ĭuring the 1990s and early 2000s, CD-ROMs were popularly used to distribute software and data for computers and fifth generation video game consoles. Computers can read-but not write or erase-CD-ROMs.
But the latter requires manual brightness, contrast and saturation adjustments. The HDR calibration result is excellent, almost excactly like Rullz MS2109. We only need to calibrate LUT table first or use pre-build one. But that's not a problem since we can use the HDR tone mapping available in HyperHDR. Tonal mapping is software-based and requires the use of special Elgato software available only for Windows OS. However, the captured HDR video material has faded / washed out colors, which does not differ in this respect from other previously tested grabbers. Similar Linux compatibility probably has the older HD60S+ model, which also supports UVC. Although Linux is not officially supported, the grabber is recognized as a UVC device and does not cause any problems when capturing video. The grabber was connected to the USB3.0 port and tested under Windows 10 and Linux (Raspberry Pi 4). The internal HDMI splitter supports HDR stream, which only Ezcap 320 and AV Access 4KVC00 (but in a limited bandwidth range) could do also.Įlgato 4K Capture Utility program allows you to change the YUV coefficients and customize EDID settings which is great. The most important feature that differs from the previously tested grabbers is VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support, which will please players. In tests it turned out that the grabber also supports 1080p120 capturing. The first thing I did was update the firmware. similar to Ezcap 320, it does not support CEC nor HDCP (must be disabled on the source). There is no word yet on when these shows will debut, but Kevin Feige previously explained that characters who debut in the shows can and will cross over onto the big screen. Other live-action Marvel shows in the works for Disney+ include She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms. Disney is also investing heavily in them, as the budgets are said to be comparable to that of an MCU movie. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is directly involved in these new Disney+ shows. The Netflix shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, meanwhile, felt entirely disconnected, for the most part. and Agent Carter were tangentially connected to the MCU, but they always felt a little removed at best. Tom Hiddleston will be back for Loki and Jeremy Renner is set to reprise his role as Clint Barton for a Hawkeye series as well. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are returning as Sam and Bucky for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany returning as Wanda and Vision for WandaVison. Unlike other live-action shows during the Marvel Cinematic Universe era, these will all be heavily connected to the movies. The shows were originally confirmed by Marvel Studios last summer during San Diego Comic-Con. Matt Shakman directs with Jac Schaeffer serving as the head writer. WandaVision, on the other hand, will be part sitcom, with homages to many classic examples of the genre and, based on the first footage, things are going to get weird. Kari Skogland directs the show, with Malcolm Spellman serving as the head writer. We know Zemo will return for the first time since Captain America: Civil War in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Hiddleston last portrayed the God of Mischief in last year’s highest-grossing film of all time Avengers: Endgame, where he successfully had stolen the Tesseract during Iron Man and Ant Man’s failed attempt to retrieve it. Loki will feature the return of Golden Globe winner Tom Hiddleston as the fan-favorite mischievous titular villain. And one of the issues I know you bring up in your brand new book, Focus on the Future is, yes, America is a traumatized nation, but you also believe that we're in kind of a bit of a reprieve right now. And so with that, now you set up, "where's the conversation going to go here, what can we do?" Tim Clinton:Ěnd this has been very traumatic. And what does it mean? It means when you look around the world in your everyday life, people are really hurting.ĭr. It's because this word out there, "collective trauma," has become the real buzz in mental health. Here's why they were talking about it, Roger. People were talking about trauma-informed care. And what was interesting about that world conference is there was a buzz around trauma-informed care. Tim Clinton: We had a world conference recently on mental health. And Dad, honestly, I worry about Olivia," our granddaughter, and she's growing up, "and is there anything we can do? What are we going to do? I mean, isn't there hope?" When you get up on social media, when you get up on the news networks and you're overdosing with all that, it's like we're dazed.ĭr. And the TV, everything just keeps coming at us. My daughter, Megan, she said to me, "Dad, I don't know. And so when you look at all this and you think about, well, maybe let me just slow it down, let's close the doors for a little bit at the house and figure out where we're at. Tim Clinton: People, yeah, who are struggling with depression, discouragement, because there's so much happening in the world around them and even suicidality. Tim Clinton: I don't know if you've followed any of this, but anxiety prescription medications are at an all-time high.ĭr. The stress that's come with it, then it's like the anxiety piece is off the charts.ĭr. But I'll tell you what, I don't think I've ever seen the fear I've seen in people. And the truth is, through all this, I think everyone knew intuitively that there would be sort of an uptick in mental health issues. And then the vaccine mandates, Afghanistan and everything. And here comes the gift that keeps on giving and it's COVID Delta variant. And the next thing you know, we're thinking maybe we're going to get over this COVID thing and be free. We were racing for a vaccine and trying to figure that piece out. And then you throw on top of that, just the events that were happening in the world around us, from the election mess to the transition and a new administration. Tim Clinton:Ěnd there's been a real beat down on individuals and families when you think about the pandemic with the resulting lockdowns, the loneliness, and so much more that came with it. Tim Clinton: Roger, I think all of us would agree over the last 18, 20 months or so it's been such an upside down world.ĭr. What compelled you to write the book, Focus on the Future right now?ĭr. We are looking at this brand new book, Focus on the Future, and I know you're thinking of your granddaughter, that you're thinking of your daughter and your son and everybody who is raising kids right now. Roger Marsh: Tim, we have you here to talk about your brand new book, which is called Focus on the Future. Let's listen now as Tim and I discuss this brand new book called Focus on the Future. Now, that's just a summary of a few of the many things that Dr. Clinton is married to Julie, they have two children and one adorable grandchild. He's the author of over 30 books and has served at Liberty University for over 30 years in numerous leadership and academic positions, including Professor of Counseling at the James C. He is recognized as a world leader in mental health and relationship issues and spends much of his time working with Christian leaders and professional athletes. Tim Clinton is president of the American Association of Christian Counselors and co-host of Family Talk, the radio ministry of the Dr. Now before we get started though, let me give my guest a brief introduction. We're going to talk about Tim's brand new book called Focus on the Future.
